Video HighlightsBLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team left little doubt as it reached 20 wins for the fifth consecutive season with a convincing, 91-45 victory over Mansfield on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field House.
With the win, the 16th-ranked Huskies improve to 20-3 overall and 17-2 in the PSAC. Bloomsburg owns a 118-26 record since the start of the 2010-11 season and the five straight 20-win campaigns marks the second longest such streak in school history behind only the 1987-88 to 1992-93 teams which accomplished the feat six straight seasons.
Just three days after having their 12-game winning streak snapped in an overtime setback at West Chester, the Huskies came out firing on all cylinders Saturday by opening the game on an 11-0 run. Bloomsburg held Mansfield without a field goal until the 14:47 mark when Brielle Kelly finally ended the draught with a bucket in the lane for a 13-3 score.
Mansfield cut within 15-7 at the 13:46 mark of the first half, but it would be as close as the Mountaineers (3-21, 2-18) would get.
A 3-pointer from
Camden Boehner (Gettysburg/Gettysburg Area) ignited what would be an 8-0 burst to stretch the lead to 16.
Bloomsburg's defense remained stifling by holding Mansfield to just 12 points over the first 15-plus minutes of play as the Huskies lead grew to 28. Bloomsburg ultimately went to halftime with a 46-18 lead after holding Mansfield to 16 percent shooting from the floor (4-of-25).
The Huskies never relinquished control, leading by as many as 51 points during the second half.
Four Bloomsburg players scored in double figures –
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) led all scorers with 15 points as well as seven rebounds and four assists in only 18 minutes.
Jocelyn Ford (Lansing, NY/Lansing) added 14 points and five assists in just 16 minutes while
Marla Simmons (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) had 13 points and eight rebounds with
Morgan Klunk (Felton/York Catholic) posting 10 points.
Taylor Maldonado (Stroudsburg/Allentown Central Catholic) also matched a career high with eight assists and
Alex Ross (Lancaster/Manheim Township) had a career high six rebounds.
Mansfield shot just 25.9 percent from the floor for the game (15-58) while Kelly being the bright spot with 13 points.
The Huskies play at Kutztown on Wednesday night with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
