East Stroudsburg Races To Victory Over Bloomsburg

Box Score (HTML)  |  Video Highlights

BLOOMSBURG – Visiting East Stroudsburg started on a 16-0 tear to begin Saturday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division battle with the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team and the Warriors never looked back on the way to an 89-61 victory at Nelson Field House.

East Stroudsburg (15-7, 13-5 PSAC) immediately looked to shake the sting of back-to-back losses to Millersville and Shippensburg, opening the game with back-to-back-to-back 3-point baskets from Matt Tobin and Jamal Nwaniemeka before the game was two minutes old. Nwaniemeka then followed with another jumper and Lamont Tillery drove the floor for a fast break layup and a 16-0 lead at the 16:46 mark.

The Warriors led by 35 in the first half, before Bloomsburg attempted to chip away before halftime. Anthony McKie (Blue Bell/Plymouth Whitemarsh) drained a 3-pointer to cut to within 51-24 at intermission after ESU drilled 10 shots from beyond the arc during the opening 20 minutes.

A layup from Charles Haigler (Charles Town, WV/Hargrave Military Academy) and back-to-back dunks from Moustapha Noumbissi (Upper Darby/Delaware County Christian School) and Alssene Saintilus (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) brought the Huskies to within 51-30 at the start of the second half, but ESU snuffed out the rally.

ESU embarked on another 16-0 run, this time putting the game away as Muhamadou Kaba made the lead 67-30 at the 13:11 mark.

Four Warriors found double figures in scoring as Nwaniemeka led all scorers with 20 points. Tobin scored 14, Whis Grant finished with 13 and Lamont Tillery scored 12 for the visitors.

Christian Mortellite (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) paced Bloomsburg with 14 points and Haigler finished with nine. Saintilus pulled down 16 rebounds to match his career high. Darius Robinson-Wallace (Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Charter) also tallied a career-best eight points.

Bloomsburg returns to action Wednesday at West Chester.
