BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team made history on Saturday afternoon, setting the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference modern era record for most consecutive divisional victories by scoring its 24th straight win over a PSAC East opponent, 62-40, over visiting East Stroudsburg at Nelson Field House.

The 17th-ranked Huskies (19-2, 16-1 PSAC) also stretched their overall winning streak to 12 straight games while giving head coach Bill Cleary his 200th career victory.

East Stroudsburg's 40 points are the fewest by a Huskies opponent since Bloomsburg limited Cheyney to 35 on Dec. 4, 2013.

The Warriors (9-13, 8-10) held the early lead, grabbing a 10-7 edge on a 3-pointer from Andrea Veres. An 11-3 run from the Huskies put the hosts up, 18-13, at the eight minute mark.

Bloomsburg would never trail again.

A layup from Tyeca Reviere brought ESU within 18-15 with 6:03 left in the opening half, but Bloomsburg finished the half on a 15-6 break to open up a 33-21 advantage at halftime.

The Huskies stretched their lead to 43-21 following foul shots from Taylor Maldonado (Stroudsburg/Allentown Central Catholic) with 15:55 left.

East Stroudsburg rallied, however, cutting its deficit to just 46-36 with 9:58 to play after a layup from Michelle Boggs.

Jocelyn Ford (Lansing, NY/Lansing) helped end the ESU rally, scoring seven consecutive points starting by drilling a 3-pointer on Bloomsburg's next trip down the floor.

A free throw from Ford at the 5:59 mark gave the Huskies a 20-point lead once more at 56-36, effectively putting the game on ice as ESU would not connect on a shot from the floor over the final 9:58.

Marla Simmons (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) continued her strong play, notching her third double-double of the year with a game-high 14 points and career high 13 rebounds. Ford tallied 12 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Reviere led ESU with nine points.

Bloomsburg returns to action Wednesday at West Chester.

GAME NOTES: The 24 straight divisional wins for the Huskies are the most since the PSAC went to the current balanced divisional alignment in 1989. Edinboro previously held the record of 23 straight wins in the Western Division between 2011-12 … The Huskies' PSAC East winning streak began against ESU on Jan. 15, 2014 with a 63-53 win at home ... Bloomsburg held ESU to just 30.0 percent shooting from the floor (15-of-50) … The Huskies won the rebounding battle, 43-40 … Bloomsburg has won 13 straight games over ESU.
