HighlightsBLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team had to wait a bit to make its debut at Steph Pettit Stadium, but made its first action on home turf impressive to say the least, dominating visiting Kutztown for an 18-8 victory under wintry conditions on Saturday afternoon.
The win is the fifth in a row for the Huskies who move to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play while Kutztown slumps to 1-6, 0-4.
Bloomsburg wasted little time in taking control as
Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West) deposited a pass from
Marisa Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) into the net just 30 seconds into the game to start the scoring.
Moley set up the offense early, assisting on three goals over the first 5:04 with
Carly Ball (Lansdale/North Penn) and
Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) turning those passes into goals.
Kutztown got on the board following a goal from Kelli Serpi with 21:29 left in the half, but the Huskies netted five unanswered goals for a 7-1 cushion.
The Huskies never lost control, taking a 10-4 lead to halftime.
Kutztown got to within a 10-5 score after opening the second half with a goal from Jullian Spencer, but it would be as close as the visitors would get.
Patrice Coleman (Media/Penncrest ) answered with a Huskies goal just over a minute later with
Brigid Kyne (Newtown Square/Marple Newtown) and Falk following with goals of their own to put the score at 13-5.
A trio of Huskies registered hat tricks - Coleman, Falk and Turner all scored three times apiece. Ball, Moley and Kyne all scored twice as well. Bloomsburg spread its offense around -
Kate Shea (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional),
Ashley Nelson (Hatfield/North Penn) and
Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) all posted goals as well.
Brittney Hegarty (Rochester/Rush Henrietta) made six saves to earn the win in net, playing the first 30 minutes.
Abbey Burnett (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) took over for the second half and also turned away five shots.
Taylor Stone led Kutztown with a game-high four goals.
Bloomsburg remains at home to play No. 2 Lock Haven on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium. Tuesday will be a Lax-4-Life Game.
