HTML BOX SCOREBLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team had its modest two-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night after dropping an 81-71 decision at Edinboro University in the final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover contest of the season. The Huskies dropped to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in the Eastern Division while the Fighting Scots improved to 9-4 overall and 8-2 in the West.
Despite a rough shooting night, the Huskies made a tremendous comeback in the second half and held as much as a three-point lead with 8:24 left and still maintained a one-point advantage with 5:55 remaining. However, Edinboro scored 20 of the game's final 29 points to earn the ten-point victory.
Bloomsburg gained an early 9-7 lead after sophomore
Alex Prislupsky (Olyphant/Mid-Valley) nailed a three-pointer with 16:21 left in the first half. The Fighting Scots then went on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 17-9 lead with 12:28 remaining. Edinboro continued to pour it on and led by as many as 14 points, 38-24, with 2:13 left in the opening half.
The Huskies, however, were able to trim the lead to 10 at halftime, 42-32, thanks to five points over the final two minutes from junior
Yahmir Greenlee (Philadelphia/Boys Latin), who sparked the Huskies off the bench with a team-high seven points in the opening twenty minutes.
Edinboro jumped back in front by 14 points, 46-32, after baskets from Art Cook and Henri Wade-Chatman at the outset of the second half.
That's when the Huskies got things in order and put together a fantastic effort to get back in the game.
Bloomsburg went on a 20-3 run over the next six minutes, capped off by a made jumper from redshirt sophomore
Christian Mortellite (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton), to take a 52-49 lead with 12:38 left in regulation. The teams would battle back-and-forth to the tune of four ties and two lead changes with Greenlee knocking down a pair of free throws with 5:55 left to regain a one-point lead for the Huskies.
However, that would be Bloomsburg's final lead of the game. Edinboro's Sheldon Brogdan nailed a three-pointer with 5:07 left to give the Fighting Scots the lead for good. It was the start of Edinboro's 20-9 spurt to end the contest.
Mortellite finished the contest with a team-high 14 points but struggled from the floor on Wednesday night. He made just 5-of-20 field goals and managed to hit just one triple in nine tries. He added five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Senior
Malik Garner (Philadelphia/Chestnut Hill Academy) also finished in double digits, chipping in 13 points.
Greenlee recorded a career-high nine points in just ten minutes off the bench while junior
Malik Sneed (Washington, D.C./Spingarn) grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with eight points.
Bloomsburg, as a team, managed to shoot just 37.7% from the field, including just 35.3% in the first half. The Huskies also made only five three-pointers in 29 attempts (17.2%).
Edinboro had five players in double figures, led by Jaymon Mason and Tommy Scales with 16 points apiece. Mason also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds in the victory.
The Huskies will attempt to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Kutztown. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
