HTML BOX SCOREEDINBORO, Pa. – Despite a career-high 12 points from junior
Kristie Costantino (Norristown/Archbishop John Carroll), the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team suffered an 84-58 setback at Edinboro University on Wednesday night at Edinboro's McComb Fieldhouse. It marked the final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover game of the regular season for both schools and left the Huskies with an 8-5 overall record and a 5-4 mark in the East. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots improved to 10-6 overall and 5-5 in the Western Division.
Costantino shot 3-of-7 from the field, 2-of-5 from long distance, and 4-of-4 from the free throw line en route to her career best in points. Her previous high was 11 against Philadelphia University on December 30, 2015.
Junior
Mia Hopkins (Pittston/Pittston Area) was the only other Husky in double figures after dropping in a team-high 13 points. However, the Fighting Scot defense did a fine job in shutting down Bloomsburg's leading scorer and rebounder. Hopkins had, arguably, her worst outing of the season adding a season-low three rebounds and a season-low one assist to go along with her 13 points.
The Huskies jumped out to a 6-4 lead, on baskets from Hopkins, freshman
Alyssa Mack (Walnutport/Allentown Central Catholic), and junior
Alex Ross (Lancaster/Manheim Township), with 7:37 left in the first quarter. That, however, would be Bloomsburg's only lead of the game as Edinboro rattled off the next 16 points, over the span of six minutes, to take a 20-6 advantage.
Bloomsburg cut the lead to 23-13 at the end of the first quarter. But, that would be as close as the Huskies would get as the Fighting Scots pulled away for the 26-point victory. The outcome proved to be the first time a Bloomsburg team lost by at least 20 points in a game since Edinboro defeated the Huskies, 98-73, on November 20, 2011.
The Huskies shot just 30.2% from the field, making 19 of their 63 shot attempts. Bloomsburg also made only seven of its 27 attempts from long distance (25.9%). Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots shot 52.7% from the field (29-of-55) and made 9-of-19 three-point attempts (47.4%). Edinboro also held a 42-32 advantage on the glass.
Mack and junior
Morgan Klunk (Felton/York Catholic) added eight points apiece while redshirt senior
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Lauren Hippo led Edinboro with 21 points while Aignee' Freeland (18), Katie Fischer (18), and Michelle Jahn (10) also reached double figures. Fischer also contributed 14 assists for the Fighting Scots.
The Huskies will look to bounce back on Saturday, January 9, when they travel to Kutztown. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
