LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team had its three-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Tuesday afternoon as the Huskies dropped a 3-1 decision at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-rival Lock Haven University. Bloomsburg dropped to 2-2-1 overall and an identical 2-2-1 mark in the conference standings while the Bald Eagles claimed their first conference win of the season and improved to 2-3-0 overall and 1-3-0 in league play.
The hosts greeted the Huskies rudely as Marah Foltz received a long outlet pass and beat sophomore goalkeeper
Devon Haviland (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) inside the near post just 9:56 into the contest to give the Bald Eagles a 1-0 advantage. Maddy Novak had the helper. Foltz struck again in the 34th minute - her second of the match and third of the season - when she chipped a shot of Haviland's head and into the back of the net for a 2-0 Bald Eagle lead.
Bloomsburg scored its lone tally of the match just five minutes later, at 39:24, when freshman
Alexis Rostucher (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) scored her first collegiate goal to cut the Lock Haven lead in half as the teams headed to the locker room. Senior
Emily Potter (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) was credited with the assist as she found Rostucher in the middle of the field. It was Potter's first point in a Huskies' uniform.
Lock Haven held a 5-2 advantage in shots in the opening half with Bloomsburg collecting the only corner kick of the stanza.
Hayleigh Swam, however, ruined thoughts of a Bloomsburg comeback when she scored her third goal of the season in the 61st minute to give the Bald Eagles their two-goal advantage back. Erika Landis had the assist.
Shots were even at four apiece in the second half with Lock Haven holding a 9-6 advantage for the match. Haviland stopped three Bald Eagle shots in the loss as her record dropped to 2-2-1 on the season. Lock Haven goalkeeper Bree Hilty had three saves to improve her record to 2-3-0 on the year.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday, September 17 when PSAC-rival Seton Hill comes to Steph Pettit Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
