Field Hockey Team Blanks The Rock

HTML BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG—The seventh-ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey team returned to its winning ways with a 3-0 win over Slippery Rock University on Tuesday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium.

The Huskies controlled play for the first ten minutes of action getting two early shots on goal. Bloomsburg finally broke through in the 10th minute of action when on a penalty corner Sam Peters (Harrisburg, Pa./Mifflin County) had her shot blocked into and off of the pads of Rock goalie Nicole Bream. Erica Krebs (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia), though, was there to collect the ball and beat Bream to the right for her third goal of the season.

In the fifteenth minute of play Slippery Rock flipped the field and took control of the play. The Rock put together five penalty corner attempts, managing just three shots on goal on the tries, but did not score.

In the second half the Huskies again came out and kept the ball in its offensive end. Finally, in the 50th minute of play, MacKenna Mahan (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) fed a pass from the front center of the goal to Abby Sauder (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) in the right corner, who punched in a nice crossing shot to the left side of the goal for a 2-0 lead.

The Huskies added an insurance goal in the 64th minute of play when Stephanie Halsted (Fairfax Station, Va./South County) sent a pass to Annie Klinger (Klingerstown, Pa./Line Mountain) who drilled home a shot. For Klinger it was her second goal of the year.

Bloomsburg's defense held the Rock without a second half shot attempt and to just one corner in the final 35 minutes of action. Peters had a first half defensive save for the Huskies, while Peyton Shockley (Milford, Del./Milford) was also solid in the circle.

In goal, Bloomsburg's Lindsay Cassel (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) made three saves to post her fifth shutout of the year.

Bloomsburg will host Mercyhurst on Saturday at 1 p.m.
