BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team earned one last win for its 2017 senior class on Saturday (Oct. 28), beating Pitt-Johnstown 7-0.
The Huskies flexed their muscles from the opening kickoff, totaling 12 shots to UPJ's one in the first half. The Huskies first goal came from senior
Brian Kilcoyne (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) in the 27
th minute off an assist from
Carter Luckenbaugh (York, Pa./Central York). An infraction by UPJ set up the free kick, which Kilcoyne deflected in past the keeper for his third of the year. Less than three minutes later, it was
Kevin Rodriguez (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) on a rush with senior
Cameron Cleary (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley). Cleary picked off a pass in the middle and created a three on two rush the other way, eventually feeding Rodriguez along the far wing, who then beat the keeper for his first of the season. The Huskies took the two-goal lead to the break.
Bloomsburg would continue to put pressure on the UPJ net, getting plenty of chances early in the second half. Another Mountain Cat infraction in the 69
th minute set up another Huskies free kick, this time it would be Cleary to take the kick. Luckenbaugh deked as though he would take it, but Cleary sniped it top shelf from 25 yards out for his first of the season. The goal unleashed an offensive barrage from Bloomsburg that lasted into the 74
th minute. 58 seconds later, it was Luckenbaugh to Kilcoyne again, this time Luckenbaugh served a ball into the box from the far wing that Kilcoyne headed past the Mountain Cats keeper.
The Huskies would continue the pace, as Mike Bazadona drilled a low shot from free space for his fifth of the season in the 73
rd minute. 19 seconds later,
Kristopher Gross (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) found himself with plenty of space and beat his defender and the Mountain Cats keeper for his third of the season. Nine seconds after Gross's goal, Rodriguez scored his second of the match making a run through the middle. Rodriguez fired a shot that was initially stopped, before Rodriguez headed the rebound over the keeper.
Bloomsburg out-shot UPJ 34-2 in total in the match. The Huskies also held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks in the match. In addition to the scoring, eight other Huskies registered shots in the contest, led by a team-high seven from
Austin Transue (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy).
Taylor Lesage (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) made one save in the shutout win.
The win concludes the 2017 men's soccer season.
