Moore Lifts Men's Basketball To 87-76 Road Win At Lock Haven Saturday

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Graduate student Hashim Moore (Sunrise, Fla./Hun School) was nearly perfect on Saturday afternoon as he poured in a career-high 24 points to lift the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team to an 87-76 victory at Lock Haven University to open inter-divisional action. The Huskies improved to 6-4 overall and 2-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division standings while the Bald Eagles dropped to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in league play.

Moore finished 11-of-12 from the field - including 8-of-8 in the second half - and made 2-of-3 of his foul shots (he entered just 16-of-44 from the foul line on the season) en route to his career-best point total. Moore also chipped in six rebounds and an assist in a career-high 30 minutes of action. Redshirt senior Christian Mortellite (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) added 16 points while sophomore Khary Mauras (Reading, Pa./Reading) and senior Kyle-Michael Rose (Middletown, Del./Sanford School) added 13 and 12 points, respectively, to join Moore in double figures. Mortellite and Mauras tied for the team-high in rebounds with seven apiece while Mauras had a team-best four assists.

Bloomsburg led almost wire-to-wire as Lock Haven's only lead of the game came on an Amir Hinton breakaway dunk with 9:33 left in regulation to give the hosts a 60-59 lead and, in the process, forced a Huskies' timeout. Following the timeout, redshirt sophomore Sam Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) regained the Bloomsburg lead on a layup and Mortellite buried a jumper to extend the advantage to 63-60 with 8:26 left. Hinton knocked down a pair of free throws to cut the Huskies' lead to one, 63-62, with 7:57 remaining in regulation.

Then, Moore took over the game.

The transfer from Division I Princeton University scored 12 of Bloomsburg's next 14 points - including ten in a row - to turn a one-point lead into an eight-point advantage, 77-69, with 2:30 left in regulation. The Bald Eagles cut the lead to five on a three-pointer from Tarojae Brake on their next possession but the Huskies went on a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 83-72, essentially icing the game, with 60 seconds left. Rose and Mortellite went 4-of-4 from the foul line and Rose added a breakaway dunk during the spurt.

Moore is averaging 14.7 points over the last seven games while shooting 44-of-65 (67.7%) from the field during the stretch. He averaged 3.7 points on 4-of-17 (23.5%) from the field in his first three games.

Bloomsburg started well and built up a 46-36 advantage at halftime. Bloomsburg used a pair of 6-0 runs and then added an 8-0 run late in the opening twenty minutes to take the ten-point lead into the locker room. Mauras led the Huskies with a dozen first-half points while Mortellite and sophomore Austin Harriott (Philadelphia, Pa./Hun School) added seven points apiece. Bloomsburg also put the clamps on Hinton as the sophomore sensation was held to just two points, on 1-of-9 shooting, and three turnovers in the opening stanza.

The Huskies shot 53.0% from the field (35-of-66) and made good on 6-of-14 attempts (42.9%) from beyond the arc. Bloomsburg was, however, an uncharacteristic 11-of-18 from the foul line (61.1%) in the win. Lock Haven, meanwhile, shot 44.9% from the floor (31-of-69) and hit 6-of-19 from long range (31.6%). The Bald Eagles got to the line only ten times and made eight. It marked the ninth time in ten games this season that the Huskies have gotten to the charity stripe more than their opponent.

Brake led the Bald Eagles with 22 points and made four of Lock Haven's six triples. Hinton heated up in the second half to finish with 15 points. Ra'eese Hunt added 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Bloomsburg did hold a slim 38-37 margin in rebounding.

The Huskies will return to action on Wednesday, January 3, when they head to Kutztown University. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
