EAST STROUDSBURG Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team hit a bump in the road with an 87-61 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Huskies fell to 9-15 overall, and 8-12 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
Alex Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) scored a team-high 16 points (5-8 FG), to go along with seven rebounds and three assists.
Alyssa Mack (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) poured in 12 points while freshman
Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) chipped in 11 points a career-high 12 rebounds off of the bench.
Imani Brown scored a game-high 17 points for the Warriors, while Noelle Powell added 16 points and four steals for ESU.
East Stroudsburg shot 56.4% from the field while Bloomsburg, converted just 36.4% of its' shots. The Huskies outrebounded the Warriors, 36-31, including 15-5 on the offensive glass.
The teams traded baskets early in the first quarter as Mack nailed a three-pointer to start the game, and Ross converted an and-one layup plus the free throw.
The Warriors would respond however, with five quick points from Rachel Falkowski and another five from Imani Brown, as East Stroudsburg used a 12-4 run to end the first quarter. The Huskies shot just 35.7% in the first quarter, and trailed, 20-13, after the first 10 minutes of action.
The second quarter proved to be one of struggles for Bloomsburg, as East Stroudsburg opened the second period on a 14-4 run to push its' lead to 34-17, thanks in part to eight straight points from Noelle Powell. The Warriors would continue to shoot lights-out, and lead, 45-24, at the half thanks to 60.7% shooting from the field.
The Huskies came out of the locker room with an 8-2 run to start the third quarter thanks to a layup from Ross, and six straight points from Klunk. That push cut the ESU lead to 48-32 with 6:45 remaining in the third quarter, but Bloomsburg was unable to get stops on the defensive end, and trailed, 67-44, heading to the final 10 minutes of play.
The Warriors won the fourth quarter, 20-17, and forced 22 Husky turnovers throughout the contest. ESU's bench came up big with 61 points, while the Bloomsburg bench managed just 16 points.
The Huskies will return home for a contest versus Kutztown on Wednesday, Feb. 22, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
