Bloomsburg, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team saw its' season come to a close with an 84-77 loss to West Chester in the first round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoffs.
With the loss, Bloomsburg ends the 2016-17 campaign with a record of 15-12 (11-11 PSAC).
Yahmir Greenlee (Philadelphia, Pa./Boys Latin) led the way for the Huskies with 21 points, while
Malik Sneed (Washington, D.C./Spingarn (Prince George's CC)) added 13 points and six rebounds.
Also,
Darius Robinson-Wallace (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) came off of the bench to score a career-high 10 points and record two steals. However,
Christian Mortellite (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) struggled to get his shot off, and went 3-for-8 from the field for just eight points. It marked just the third time in his last 65 games that he failed to reach double digits.
The Huskies jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the game's opening minutes thanks to contributions from
Malik Sneed (Washington, D.C./Spingarn (Prince George's CC)), Greenlee and
Donell Diggs (Washington, D.C./Takoma Academy (Prince George's CC)).
Bloomsburg lost some firepower in the first half when
Carnell McGirt (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic (Valley Forge Military Academy)) left at the 14:50 mark due to an apparent ankle injury after converting an and-one layup. West Chester then went on a 17-8 run in the next seven minutes to take a 23-20 lead with 7:47 remaining in the half. McGirt would not return to the contest.
The Golden Rams continued to lead late in the half, taking a 38-32 advantage thanks to two free throws from Matt Penecale. The Huskies would respond, and use a 6-0 run at the end of the first half, and at the beginning of second half to tie the game.
The two teams would trade buckets for the next several minutes, until West Chester used a 16-7 run between the 15:23 mark and the 8:53 mark, and held a 60-53 that they would not give up for the remainder of the contest.
Bloomsburg pulled within two, 66-64, with an 11-6 run, but the Golden Rams would sue an 8-0 run to effectively end the game and put them up, 74-64, with 4:06 remaining.
The Golden Rams would nail all of its' free throws and keep the Huskies at bay in the game's final minutes to seal the win.
Tyrell Long led West Chester with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Jackson Hyland posted a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.
West Chester (45.3%) outshot Bloomsburg (38.7%), and held a big advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Huskies, 51-29.
