Brevard, N.C. - The Bloomsburg University baseball team split a pair of contests against Brevard College on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies won game one, 13-3, before falling in game two, 8-5.
With the split, Bloomsburg is now 8-6 on the season.
GAME ONE RECAP
In the first game, Trey Hinkle (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) earned the win, going five strong innings while giving up three earned runs and striking out five. The top of lineup was strong for the Huskies, as the 1-3 hitters went a combined 7-12 with six RBI, six runs scored and a home run.
Bloomsburg struck first after two scoreless innings with for runs in the top of the third. The Huskies loaded up the bases and Nate Krizan (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock) scored when Tyler Benson (Montville, N.J./Montville Township) was hit by a pitch. Bloomsburg would add three more runs in the inning on a Damin Muth (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) RBI single, a Ryuta Amaike (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) RBI after grounding into a double play and a Blake Gular (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) double that scored Benson.
Brevard would get two runs back in the bottom of the fourth, but the Huskies would respond with four more runs in the top of the fifth, making it an 8-2 game. Bloomsburg would add three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh, never letting the Tornados back into the game.
Austin Edgette (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Benson finished 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.
On the mound, J.J. Spehrley pitched two perfect innings in relief of Hinkle.
GAME TWO RECAP
In the second contest, Brevard jumped out to a 5-0 lead after just two innings of action, and never looked back. Mark Bobko (Metuchen, N.J./St. Joseph Metuchen) got the start for Bloomsburg on the mound, and went 1.2 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) and was replaced by Amaike.
The Tornados would push their lead to 8-1 heading into the top of the seventh, where the Huskies would take their attempt at a comeback.
Chad Cooperman (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury) would drive in two runs with a triple, and would score later on a wild pitch. A RBI single by Muth would make it an 8-5 game, but Bloomsburg would not be able to trim the deficit any more. Benson and Muth each went 2-for-4, while Cooperman finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

The Huskies will play Brevard one more time tomorrow, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
