Salem, Va. - The Bloomsburg University softball team won two of its' three games on Saturday afternoon in the Salem International Tournament.
The Huskies fell to Shepherd, 9-0 (5 inn.), before winning their next two games, 10-4 over Ursuline (9 inn.) and 3-0 over Winston-Salem State.
Bloomsburg now has a record of 4-3 on the season.
GAME ONE RECAP
The Huskies struggled to get any offense going in the opening game of the day, registering just three hits against the Rams. Shepherd would score two runs apiece in four of the five innings to seal the win. Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge), Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) and Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) each recorded a hit for Bloomsburg.
GAME TWO RECAP
Bloomsburg used a sixth inning comeback and seven runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Ursuline, 10-4. The Arrows jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and held the Huskies in check, as they managed just two hits over the first five innings.
Things would change in the top of the sixth inning, as Kalynn Wheeland (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) got things started with a leadoff double. Tomaschik would walk to put runners on first and second with one out, and a RBI single by Lindsay Nemeth (Drums, Pa./Marian Catholic) would make it a 2-1 game. Anna McElroy (Jessup, Pa./Valley View) would follow Nemeth with a RBI single to tie the game, 2-2.
The two teams would trade a scoreless seventh inning, before Bloomsburg went up, 3-2, in the top of the eighth. The Huskies would give up a run in the bottom of the inning, but would explode for seven runs in the top of the ninth to seal the win.
Bloomsburg received hits from Nemeth, Winkelman, Bridget Casey (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge), Wheeland and Alyssa Davies (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood), as the Huskies would bat around in the inning.
GAME THREE RECAP
The top of the order led the way for Bloomsburg against Winston-Salem State in the third game, as the 1-3 hitters each scored a run in the first inning. That would be all the offense that the Huskies would need, as the Rams recorded just three hits and were shut down by Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run).
UP NEXT
The Huskies will take on West Liberty, tomorrow at 11:00 a.m., before heading to Florida for an eight-game swing.
