Softball Extends Win Streak to Five with Doubleheader Sweep of Millersville

Millersville, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University softball team extended its' winning streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep over Millersville on Tuesday. The Huskies won game one, 3-0, and followed that up with a 1-0 victory in game two over Marauders.

With the wins, Bloomsburg moves to 16-12 (7-1 PSAC), while Millersville drops to 17-20 (2-8 PSAC) this season.

GAME ONE RECAP

The two teams traded zeros in the scorebook in over the first two innings, until Holly Peacock (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) singled and drove in Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run), giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

Parker dominated in all facets for the game, going 4-for-4 at the plate, and tossing a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in the circle for Bloomsburg.

The Huskies would add two more insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning when Parker drove in Abby Remley, followed by Peacock knocking in Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) for her second RBI of the game.

GAME TWO RECAP

More strong pitching propelled the Huskies in game two, as Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) went the distance, allowing six hits and striking out nine.

Tomaschik ran into trouble in the bottom of the third inning, where she faced a bases loaded situation with two outs, but was able to escape the jam with allowing any runs.

Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) and Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) each recorded two hits, while Bridget Casey (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) drove in the lone run of the contest on a single that plated Marissa Shelhamer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) in the top of the fifth inning.

UP NEXT

The Huskies return to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Friday, when they host Pitt-Johnstown in a doubleheader, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
