Johnstown, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University softball team improved its' win streak to five games with back-to-back 4-0 wins at Pitt-Johnstown on Friday afternoon. With the wins and a loss by Lock Haven to Clarion earlier today, the Huskies clinched the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division.
Bloomsburg moved to 27-15, (15-3 PSAC), while the Lady Cats fell to 14-22, (3-15 PSAC) on the season.
GAME ONE RECAP
Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) started game one in the circle for the Huskies and shined once again, allowing just one hit and striking out 11 batters for the game.
The two teams went scoreless for the first two innings, until Bridget Casey (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) launched a home run in the top of the third to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth inning, Emily Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) singled and was followed by Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield), who reached on an error. After Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run) registered a fielder's choice, Holly Peacock (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) singled and drove in Mayhew. Later in the inning, Natalie Quinlan (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) recorded a RBI single, plating Parker and giving Bloomsburg a 3-0 advantage.
Mayhew drove in Julia Knight (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) with a RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to help seal the win for the Huskies.
GAME TWO RECAP
Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run) continued her season-long strong pitching in game two, allowing just four hits and tallying one strikeout in seven innings of work.
Parker also did some work at the plate, hitting a sacrifice fly to score Mayhew in the top of the first inning. Also in that inning, Marissa Shelhamer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) singled, scoring Winkelman, and then later crossed the plate on a single by Bridget Casey (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge).
The two teams would trade zeros on the scoreboard up until the seventh inning, when the Huskies would add one more insurance run on a single by Lindsay Nemeth (Drums, Pa./Marian Catholic), scoring Shelhamer.
