Quakertown, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University softball team hit a bump in its' road to repeating as Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champions, with a 9-1 loss in six innings against West Chester on Thursday night.
With the loss, Bloomsburg (30-17) will play Lock Haven in an elimination game on Saturday (TBD) for a chance to go to the championship game.
STATS AND NOTES
Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) went 2-for-3 at the plate, and homered to deep centerfield for the lone Bloomsburg run in the top of the fifth inning.
Holly Peacock (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) tied Winkelman with two hits on the evening.
Maggie Hall (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) and Marisa Shelhamer each recorded a hit, and had a double and triple, respectively.
GAME RECAP
Taylor Parker (Dewart, Pa./Warrior Run) started in the circle for Bloomsburg, but was bested by Madison Kelly, who led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run, giving West Chester a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second inning, Emily Maseth doubled down the left field line to drive in a run and push the lead to 2-0.
The Golden Rams had a four-run burst in the bottom of the fourth inning, thanks to multiple extra-base hits, and led, 6-0. West Chester was able to chase Parker, who was replaced by Mallory Tomaschik (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia).
The Huskies manufactured their lone run of the night in the top of the fifth, when Winkelman hit a 2-2 pitch deep over the wall in center to make it a 6-1 ballgame.
West Chester responded with a solo shot by Sara Ercolani in the bottom of the inning to re-establish its' six-run lead.
The Golden Rams would end the game in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single.
