STORYLINE
Bloomsburg University field hockey opens the 2017 season ranked No. 8 in the NFHCA preseason poll. They return 15 players from last year's roster, with only three of those being seniors in
Sally DeLuca (West Pittston, Pa./Wyoming Area),
Geneka Mahan (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) and
MacKenna Mahan (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area). The Huskies are coming off an appearance in the 2016 conference quarterfinals. Queens begins their first year as a Division II program, while Newberry is coming off a 6-11 season.
ALL-TIME SERIES
This will be the first meeting between Bloomsburg and Queens.
Bloomsburg is 1-1 in two previous games against Newberry.
LAST MEETING
Bloomsburg and Newberry met in Bloomsburg back on October 3, 2015, with the Wolves coming away with a 2-0 win.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies return plenty of firepower from last year's roster, including three double-digit point-scorers in
Ali McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech) (14),
MacKenna Mahan (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) (11) and
Abby Sauder (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) (11). McKay, a sophomore along with junior
Tali Wehner (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) are returning all-PSAC selections.
SCOUTING QUEENS
The Royals enter their first-ever season of competition in 2017.
SCOUTING NEWBERRY
Newberry returns 14 players from 2016, including sophomore Kristyna Oyola who totaled 10 points on four goals and two assists. Newberry opens up their season Friday night (Sept. 1) against Seton Hill, and results were not gathered in time for this preview.
UP NEXT
The Huskies will host No. 10 Adelphi in their home opener on Tuesday (Sept. 5). Start time is slated for 4:00 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium.
