Huskies Down Lady Eagles for Third Conference Win

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team defeated Lock Haven on the road 1-0 on Wednesday (Sept. 13) to win their third straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest and earn program win No. 299 all-time.

The two teams played a back and forth yet scoreless first half, with BU leading in the shot column 5-4 at the break.

The second half saw much of the same, with chances and rushes for both teams yet no scoring. That changed in the 71st minute when Natalie Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and Christina Podpora (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) teamed up to find Megan Callan (Eldersburg, Md./Century) who torched the back of the net. The ball was crossed in from the wing, and Callan found her way to it to stash it home. The eventual game-winner was Callan's first of the year.

Callan totaled four shots in the contest, while Rachel Yenney (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and Jessica Milligan (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) each registered two. Allie Barber (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area), Holmes, Mackenzie Gebhardt (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen),  Lauren Hoelke (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional), Podpora and Maggie McDonald (Burke, Va./West Potomac) each fired one shot. As a team, the Huskies put together 14 shots including six on goal, while limiting the Lady Eagles to just six shots with four on goal. Jenna Hawkins (Hamburg, Pa./Fleetwood) (4-1-0, 3-1-0 PSAC) made all four saves in her second shutout of the season.

The Huskies (4-1-0, 3-1-0 PSAC) hit the road again Saturday (Sept. 16) to battle Gannon in conference crossover action. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
