MANSFIELD, Pa.- The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team defeated Mansfield 4-0 on the road Tuesday night (Sept. 19) to earn the program's 300
th all-time win.
BU was able to apply offensive pressure for the first 20 minutes of the match, before
Allie Barber (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area) went streaking down the wing with the ball at her feet. Barber sent a crossing pass into the box that after a couple volleys found its way to
Jamie Marsico (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown). The freshman stashed home her second of the season to open the scoring in the 25
th minute. BU would continue to play in the offensive end, but would ultimately take the one-goal lead to the break.
The two teams went back and forth for the majority of the second half, until a Mansfield infraction awarded
Natalie Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding) a penalty kick in the 70
th minute. Holmes put away her first tally of the year to double Bloomsburg's lead. The penalty kick goal sparked two late markers from BU to ultimately put the win away.
Maggie McDonald (Burke, Va./West Potomac) sniped the back of the net from about 30 yards out in the 75
th minute to make it 3-0, and the Huskies kept on pushing. After a great individual effort from Holmes to get the ball down the near wing, she served a cross into the box.
Sam Rodkey (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) was there to head the ball into the corner of the net for the fourth and final goal of the contest in the 85
th minute.
BU outshot Mansfield 19-3 in the contest including 11-2 in shots on goal. Marsico led the offense in shots with four, putting three on goal. Three Huskies each registered two shots, while seven others recorded one. Reigning PSAC East Co-Player of the Week
