Huskies Drop Sunday Contest to Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del.- The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team dropped its non-conference contest at Goldey-Beacom 5-2 on Sunday (Sept. 3).
The Lightning got off to a fast start, scoring in the fourth minute to take the lead. Artur Zvinchuk got a shot off against Taylor Lesage (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton), who made the initial save. The rebound deflected right to Mateus Silvestre, who stashed it home for his first goal of the season.

The Lightning held the initial lead until Carter Luckenbaugh (York, Pa./Central York) found Austin Transue (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) close in on the left post in the 28th minute. Luckenbaugh's pass connected with the senior and Transue netted his first of the year to tie the game. The game stayed tied going toward the half, but Goldey-Beacom made a late run and Fernando Sanchez was taken down in the box just five seconds before the halftime horn. Sanchez was awarded a penalty kick and cashed in on it, giving Goldey-Beacom a 2-1 lead at the break.

The score remained 2-1 until the 65th minute, when Anthony Cerda (Budd Lake, N.J./Mount Olive) sent a ball into the box. A mass scramble ensued to gain possession, before Brett Milden (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) connected to torch the twine for his first of the season and tying the game yet again for BU.

Goldey-Beacom would regain the lead for good in the 67th minute off a strike from 15 yards out off the foot of Alejandro Varela. Two more Lightning goals in the final 10 minutes would put the game on ice and get the Lightning their first win of the season.

Transue and Milden each netted their first goal of the year in the loss. Lesage made three saves in the contest.

The Huskies continue their non-conference slate when they travel to Jefferson College Wednesday night (Sept. 6). Opening kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
