Huskies Shut Out Millersville in Home Opener

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team shut out visiting Millersville 3-0 on Wednesday (Sept. 6) to get its first PSAC win of the year.

The Huskies (2-1-0, 1-1-0 PSAC) pushed the pace of play for most of the first half, and finally got a break in the 24th minute. Hannah Miller (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Oak Ridge) sent a corner kick in from the near flag, with the ball deflecting to the feet of Jessica Milligan (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge). Milligan turned to her left and found Erin Bielski (York, Pa./Century (Md.)) for her first of the year to put the Huskies up 1-0. Less than four minutes later, it was Milligan again feeding to a teammate, this time on the rush. BU played the rush game well all night, and it worked out well in the 28th minute when Milligan deked right by one defender and crossed it through the box for Rachel Yenney (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley). The senior stashed home her third of the year to make it 2-0 in favor of the home team. The Huskies carried the lead to the half.

BU padded its lead in the 66th minute when Milligan got in on the scoring. Natalie Holmes (Laurel, Md./Archbishop Spalding) sent a beautiful ball in from the far corner, and Milligan headed it home off the set piece for her first tally of the year. BU kept the pressure on after the third goal, but used it more to silence any Millersville offense.

The Huskies outshot the Marauders 18-8 and also held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks. Jenna Hawkins (Hamburg, Pa./Fleetwood) (2-1-0) made two saves in her first shutout of the season.

The Huskies are back in action on Saturday (Sept. 10) when they host California (Pa.) in PSAC action. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium.
