Men's Soccer Falls At Millersville Wednesday Night

HTML BOX SCORE

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team allowed four second-half goals and suffered a 4-1 setback at Millersville University on Wednesday night at Pucillo Field. The Huskies dropped to 6-9 overall and 3-6 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action while the Marauders improved to 7-3-5 overall and 5-2-2 in conference play.

After a scoreless first half in which the Huskies held a 6-4 shot advantage over the Marauders, goals came fast and furious in the second half as the teams combined for all five goals during the final 45 minutes.

Millersville started the scoring just 2:46 into the second half when Spencer Shortt beat sophomore goalkeeper Brock Gould (York, Pa./Red Lion) to give the Marauders a 1-0 lead. Nathan Erb followed nine minutes later when he headed a corner kick from Shortt past Gould to extend the Millersville advantage to 2-0.

Just three minutes later, in the 59th minute, a Millersville foul in the box set up the Huskies' lone goal as junior Tyler Madeira (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) beat Darian McCauley on a penalty kick to cut the Millersville lead in half at 2-1. It was Madeira's team-leading ninth goal of the season and third via penalty kick on the year.

However, the Marauders' Anthony Calamia put a damper on any thoughts of a Bloomsburg comeback when he scored in the 68th minute to regain a two-goal lead for Millersville at 3-1. Jacob Gosselin finished the scoring in the 75th minute with his fourth goal of the year.

Gould dropped to 4-6 on the season despite a season-high nine saves in goal for the Huskies. McCauley, meanwhile, improved to 7-3-5 on the season with a five-save performance for the Marauders. Millersville outshot Bloomsburg, 14-4, in the second half and led in that category for the match by an 18-10 margin. The Marauders also had six corner kick opportunities to Bloomsburg's three.

Bloomsburg will play its final regular season home game of the 2018 season on Saturday, October 20, when it hosts California University of Pennsylvania at Steph Pettit Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and will serve as Senior Day for the Huskies. Bloomsburg will honor its lone senior, Kevin Rodriguez (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), prior to opening kickoff.
