Men's Soccer Plays To 1-1 Double Overtime Draw At Caldwell Wednesday Afternoon

HTML BOX SCORE

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team played to a 1-1 double overtime tie at Caldwell University on Wednesday afternoon in the final non-conference match of the 2018 season for the Huskies. Bloomsburg moved to 7-9-1 overall while the Cougars concluded their regular season with a 6-9-2 overall record.

The hosts wasted little time jumping on the scoreboard as Bryan Ohlott notched his first goal of the season just 4:56 into the contest off of a cross from the Cougars' leading scorer, Erlend Aase. But, the Huskies responded late in the first half after a Caldwell foul in the box resulted in a penalty kick opportunity. Junior Tyler Madeira (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) took the shot and beat Caldwell starting goalkeeper Jose Salinas for his team-leading tenth goal of the season. He became the first Bloomsburg player since Austin Transue (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) scored 12 goals in 2015 to hit double figures in goals in a single season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brock Gould (York, Pa./Red Lion) saw his record move to 5-6-1 on the season. He was credited with three saves with all three coming in the second half. Salinas started for the Cougars and played only the first half as he stopped four of the five shots he saw. Anthony Tirri played the final 65 minutes and was credited with two saves. His record moved to 0-0-1 on the year.

Shots were even at 13 apiece and corner kick opportunities were also even at 4-4 on the afternoon. Madeira led the Huskies with four shots while sophomore Lael Cherry (Gros Islet, St. Lucia/Castries Comprehensive) had three shots - all of which were on goal.

Bloomsburg will conclude its season on Saturday afternoon, October 27, when it heads to Pitt-Johnstown to battle the Mountain Cats. The game will be held at Richland High School beginning at 1:00 p.m.
