BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - For the first time since the 2000 season, the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team is the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) regular season champion. The 10th-ranked Huskies were able to blank visiting Edinboro University, 1-0, on Saturday evening which, coupled with a 4-0 loss by Millersville at Gannon, gave Bloomsburg the regular season crown and the top overall seed entering next week's conference tournament. The Huskies finished the regular season with a 13-2-2 overall record and a 12-2-2 conference mark while the Fighting Scots concluded the year with a 6-11 overall record and a 5-11 slate in conference play. The win also extended Bloomsburg's unbeaten streak to 11 consecutive matches (9-0-2).
The Huskies will host a quarterfinal match at Steph Pettit Stadium on Tuesday, October 30, with opening kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. However, due to a postponement in the IUP-West Chester match, Bloomsburg is still awaiting who it will be playing in that opening round contest. The IUP-West Chester game is scheduled to be played on Sunday.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Jenna Hawkins (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) tied the school record for most shutouts in a single season as she recorded her PSAC-leading 12th of the year on Saturday. The record was previously solely held by Heather Hartman during the 2001 season. The blanking was Bloomsburg's sixth consecutive shutout and 14th shutout in 17 contests this season. Hawkins has allowed only one goal in her last 931:06 of action and, in fact, the Huskies have allowed only one goal during their 11-game unbeaten streak. As a team, Bloomsburg has conceded only five goals all season - fewest in the PSAC.
Hawkins got all of the offense she would need just over four minutes into the second half when senior
Taylor Sneidman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) beat Edinboro goalkeeper Anna Voelker for her fourth goal of the season. Freshman
Kate Schlotter (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) earned the assist on the tally - her first collegiate helper. Sneidman moved into a tie for the team lead in goals with four and is now also tied with senior
Allie Barber (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area) in game-winning goals with three.
Bloomsburg held a 13-6 advantage in shots for the contest which included a 10-3 margin in the second half. Junior
Jessica Milligan (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and sophomore
Lauren Hoelke (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Regional) each had four shot attempts to lead the team in that category. The Huskies also had six corner kick opportunities to the Fighting Scots' three.
Hawkins improved to 12-2-2 on the season and was credited with one save in the victory. Voelker suffered the loss as she wrapped up her season with a 6-11 record. She turned aside seven Bloomsburg shots.
