Women's Basketball Falls At 19th-Ranked Jefferson, 56-45, Saturday Afternoon

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon as the Huskies dropped a 56-45 decision at 19th-ranked Jefferson University in a non-conference matchup from the Gallagher Center. Bloomsburg fell to 7-3 overall on the season while the Rams improved to 10-0.

Sophomore Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) led the Huskies with 12 points and was the only player in double figures. She was 5-of-11 from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line. Junior Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) and sophomore Megan Brandt (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) each had nine points and six rebounds.

Long-range shooting and rebounding proved to be costly for the Huskies as Jefferson rallied to outscore Bloomsburg, 34-21, in the second half. Seniors Alyssa Mack (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and Marissa Molnar (Erie, Pa./McDowell) who entered ranked first and fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in three-point field goal percentage, respectively, combined to shoot just 2-of-15 (13.3%) from beyond the arc on Saturday. Molnar finished 1-of-9 from deep and was 2-of-11 overall for a total of five points. Mack, the Huskies' leading scorer, was 1-of-6 from long distance and 2-of-9 overall for a total of six points.

On the glass, Jefferson held a significant 50-30 edge with 20 of its 50 boards coming on the offensive end.

Bloomsburg led 24-22 at halftime before the Rams pulled away with their 13-point edge in the second half to erase the two-point deficit. Jefferson outscored Bloomsburg, 19-13, in the third to take a 41-37 lead heading to the fourth quarter. The Rams really clamped down defensively in the final period as the Huskies could muster only eight fourth-quarter points.

Redshirt sophomore Lauren Oeth (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) was the only other Huskies' player to score as she finished with four points in 12 minutes off the bench.

Jessica Kaminski led three Rams in double figures with 16 points while also adding seven rebounds. Alynna Williams finished with 13 and Beverly Kum added 12 in the victory. Erin Maher had eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Neither team shot well - Bloomsburg was 18-of-57 (31.6%) from the field and 2-of-18 (11.1%) from three-point range. Jefferson was 18-of-59 (30.5%) from the floor but was 6-of-15 (40.0%) from long distance. The Rams also held a seven-point edge from the foul line - Jefferson was 14-of-18 (77.8%) while Bloomsburg was 7-of-10 (70.0%).

The Huskies will get back into conference play on Tuesday, December 18, and Wednesday, December 19, when they head west to battle the Vulcans of California (PA) and Slippery Rock, respectively. Tip-offs are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday and 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
