CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bloomsburg University softball team dropped both their games on Friday (Mar. 16), falling to Wayne State 12-2 in five innings and Sioux Falls (S.D.) 3-1.
Wayne State began the scoring in a big way with five runs in the first, before tacking on four in the third and three in the fifth. Bloomsburg was held scoreless until the fifth when they scratched across two runs. In the fifth,
Julia Knight (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) reached on an error before coming around to score on a single by
Bridget Casey (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge).
Kelsey Impink (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) reached on a fielder's choice and would later score in the inning.
Taylor Winkelman (Springfield, Pa/Springfield) finished the game with two hits, while
Marissa Shelhamer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) and Casey each had one.
Abby Wild (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) (3-2) took the loss in the circle, allowing the five runs in the first inning.
Tara Baney (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) and
Erin Smith (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) both pitched in relief in the game.
Against Sioux Falls, the Cougars scored three times in the first inning while holding the Huskies scoreless until the fifth. In the first, the scoring began with a sacrifice fly by Jasmine Rogusi to score Lindsey Mossman. Sydney Nieveen advanced to third on the play, before scoring on a RBI single from Kerrigan Hoshaw. The inning continued for the Cougars, and Emily Hove would single back to the circle to score Francesca Mickelson unearned. The lone run for the Huskies came in the fifth when a RBI single from Winkelman scored
Alexa Erney (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley).
The Huskies scored one run on three hits and also committed one error in the loss. Winkelman had two hits and one RBI in the contest, while
Maggie Hall (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) and Knight each had one hit.
Alyssa Davies (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) (2-2) took the loss in the circle, allowing three runs, two earned on six hits. She walked four and struck out five in the effort.
Bloomsburg moves to 6-6 and then 6-7, while Wayne State improves to 10-6 and Sioux Falls is now 3-8 on the season.
The Huskies finish off their play in the Florida PFX tournament on Saturday (Mar. 17) when they take on Northwood and Purdue-Northwest. First pitch against Northwood is set for 9:00 a.m. and the game against Purdue-Northwest is set to begin at 11:30 a.m.
