BLOOMSBURG, PA – The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team totaled seven goals in each half of their 14-8 victory over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival Edinboro University on Saturday (Mar. 31) at Steph Pettit Stadium.
Bloomsburg jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first half, scoring the first six goals of the contest.
Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) got Bloomsburg on the board 89 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal.
Erin Boulger (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) would score a free position goal a few minutes later followed by a
Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West) goal at 22:26. Just 16 seconds after Turner found the net, Rusen scored from
Sydney Collins (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill). With a commanding 4-0 lead, the Huskies went back and forth with Edinboro until Rusen totaled her third goal of the half at the nine-minute mark, with an assist from
Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side). 43 seconds later,
Megan Smith (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Township) scored Bloomsburg's second free position goal of the half to make it 6-0. With 34 seconds left in the half, the Fighting Scots scored their first goal of the game off the stick of Mary Uplinger. The Huskies answered right away as
Lindsey Coyle (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) found the net with 10 seconds left in the half to give Bloomsburg a 7-1 advantage at the break.
The two teams opened up the second half going back and forth until Edinboro's Hannah Fitzgerald's goal at the 25:06 mark made it 7-2. After Rusen scored her fourth goal of the contest from Kelleher, the Fighting Scots went on a 3-0 run over a six-minute span. Maddie Mulcahy scored from Uplinger (22:23), Uplinger scored unassisted (19:37), and Stephanie Chido hit a free-position shot at the 17:25 mark to slice Bloomsburg's lead to three goals. The Huskies answered with a 3-0 run of their own stretching over 5:01.
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) (17:13), Coyle (13:22), and
Kirsten Wozniak (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) (12:17) all scored, with Kelleher collecting assists on Jaskuta and Wozniak's goals, while Abby Berman tallied the assist on Coyle's goal. At the 11:16 mark, Edinboro's Sophie DePalma scored to make it an 11-6 game. The six-goal differential would be the closest the Fighting Scots came to the Huskies for the remainder of the contest. With 9:45 to play, Jaskuta drilled her second goal of the half (woman-up) from Collins. 21 ticks later, Gormley scored from Coyle. Edinboro tacked on two more goals with Sidney Dobbins (7:31) and Kandyce Graham (3:29) each scoring on free-position shots. Holding a 13-8 lead with under a minute left, the Huskies added another goal with 23 seconds left when Collins scored from Wozniak, making the final score 14-8 in favor of Bloomsburg.
Bloomsburg outshot Edinboro 41-21 on the day, also holding a 29-17 advantage in shots-on-goal. Rusen scored a game-high four goals in the win, netting her second four-goal game of the season. Jaskuta and Coyle each scored twice and six others scored once. Kelleher dished out a game-high four assists on the day, while Collins added two helpers and three others tallied one assist each. Bloomsburg won the battle for ground balls 37-31, with
Tiffany Diachynsky (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) scooping up a game-high six.
Allison Bardman (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) collected five, while Gormley, Smith and
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) each picked up three. Five others recorded two apiece and another seven Huskies each grabbed one. BU caused 23 of Edinboro's 33 turnovers, led by four each from Diachynsky and Turner.
Delaney Schappert (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) caused three in the win, while Gormley and Jaskuta each caused two and another eight Huskies each caused one turnover. Bloomsburg won 17 draw controls to Edinboro's seven, with Turner and Bergman each collecting four. Boulger snatched three and Gormley registered two in the win, while another four each won one. DiPasquale (6-2) made nine saves in the win.
Saturday's victory marks the fourth straight conference win for Bloomsburg, now 6-2 on the year and 4-1 against PSAC opposition. The Fighting Scots fall to 3-6 with an 0-6 record versus the PSAC.
The Huskies continue their conference slate on Tuesday (Apr. 3) when they travel to Kutztown for a 7:00 p.m. start.
