Huskies Drop Conference Contest at No. 9 West Chester on Tuesday

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team fell in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action to No. 9 West Chester 21-6 on Tuesday (Apr. 17).

West Chester scored the first eight goals of the game over the first 9:55, beginning with a goal from Sami Barnett unassisted just 56 seconds in. Tatum Altman scored from Emily Schulze just shy of four minutes in, before Maggie Stella would score back-to-back unassisted goals just 45 seconds apart to stretch West Chester's lead to 4-0 less than five minutes in. Just over six minutes in, Schulze would score from Stella to make it 5-0 before Kasey Kelley scored from Altman less than nine minutes in. Tara Morrissey would score the first of her back-to-back goals assisted by Stella at 20:42, before scoring again from Stella at 20:05 to build an 8-0 lead for the Golden Rams. Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) scored her 25th goal of the season from Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) with 17 minutes left to get the Huskies on the board, before West Chester would score the next six goals over an 11-minute span. Morrissey scored from Altman with 16 and a half minutes left in the first half, before the other five goals on the run were scored unassisted. Trisha Baud scored with 13:35 to play in the half, before Morrissey scored unassisted just 32 seconds later. Altman would score the next two goals (9:10, 7:00), before Barnett polished off the run with a goal just over five minutes to play in the first half. Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored her 32nd of the season from Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West) with four minutes to play, before Rachel Noble scored the final goal of the first half for West Chester with 1:11 left assisted by Alex Wendig. The Golden Rams led 15-2 at the half.

The Golden Rams out-scored Bloomsburg just 6-4 in the second half, with West Chester scoring the first two goals of the frame. Stella scored from Baud less than nine minutes in, before Morrissey scored from Altman just shy of 11 minutes in. Gormley would net her 27th of the season unassisted with 17:45 to play in the half, before West Chester would score the next four goals over a nine-minute span. Baud scored from Altman just past the halfway point of the period, before Drew McKinney scored unassisted with 11 and a half minutes left. West Chester's last two goals came from Noble (woman-up, 8:10) assisted by Lindsay Pruitt and Allie Ward unassisted (6:20). BU would score the final three goals of the game in the final three minutes and change, starting with Gormley's second of the game assisted by Turner with 3:03 left. Kirsten Wozniak (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) would score her sixth of the season unassisted with 1:40 left, before Rusen would score from Allison Bardman (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) with 20 seconds left to round out the scoring.

Bloomsburg recorded 12 total shots in the game, including seven on goal. Gormley and Rusen each scored twice for BU, while Kelleher and Wozniak also netted one goal each. Turner tallied two assists in the game, along with one each from Gormley and Bardman. Bloomsburg picked up 19 ground balls as a team in the loss, with three Huskies grabbing three apiece. Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) picked up two, while eight others recorded one each. Bloomsburg caused nine of West Chester's 16 turnovers, with Turner and Nocito each causing two and five others each forcing one turnover. The Huskies won nine draw controls in the game, led by three each from Turner and Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts). Erin Boulger (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) also registered two in the game and Gormley collected one. Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) (9-5) took the loss in between the pipes, making eight saves in the game.

No. 9 West Chester remains undefeated at 14-0 and 9-0 in conference with the win, while Bloomsburg moves to 9-5 and 5-4 in PSAC play.

The Huskies are back at home on Saturday (Apr. 21) when they welcome No. 21 Indiana (Pa.) for Senior Day. Opening draw is set for 12:00 noon at Bloomsburg's Steph Pettit Stadium.
