Sneidman Lifts Women's Soccer To Season-Opening Shutout Win Over Mansfield

HTML BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Senior Taylor Sneidman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored a goal and assisted on another as the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team got the 2018 season off on the right foot with a 2-0 shutout over visiting Mansfield University on Thursday night in front of a large crowd at Steph Pettit Stadium. The contest was the season opener, and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener, for both teams.

Sneidman gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead near the midway mark of the first half with her first collegiate goal, knocking home a centering feed from junior Alexis Rostucher (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) past Mansfield goalkeeper Rachel Fox. Sneidman was playing in just her second collegiate game on Thursday after competing in one match during the 2016 campaign. Meanwhile, Rostucher earned her first collegiate assist with the helper.

Despite holding a 7-1 edge in shots during the opening half, the Huskies had to settle for the 1-0 lead at intermission and then held the slimmest of margins until sophomore Maggie McDonald (Burke, Va./West Potomac) uncorked a shot from roughly 40 yards out that sailed over Fox' head and into the back of the net in the 73rd minute to give Bloomsburg an insurance goal. McDonald picked up where she left off a season ago as she tied for the team lead in goals as a rookie with five. Sneidman was credited with the assist.

Bloomsburg held a 16-3 advantage in shots over the course of the night and also led Mansfield in corner kicks, 7-1. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Hawkins (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) did not have to make a save to earn her first shutout of the season after collecting six last year. Meanwhile, Fox stopped five shots for the Mountaineers in a losing effort.

The Huskies will return to action on Saturday, September 1 as they host another PSAC rival, IUP, at Steph Pettit Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
