Hoffman's Hat Trick Lifts #5 Field Hockey To 4-0 Victory At Seton Hill Saturday

HTML BOX SCORE

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Junior Tesa Hoffman (Freeburg, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) recorded her first career hat trick and freshman Kristen Robinson (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area) notched her first collegiate goal as the fifth-ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey team earned a 4-0 shutout victory at Seton Hill University on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 3-0 on the young season while the Griffins dropped to 0-3.

Robinson started the scoring for the Huskies with her first career goal just 2:38 into the contest to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead. Off of a penalty corner, Robinson played the ball out to Hoffman who took a shot towards the goal that was redirected in by the freshman for, what proved to be, the game-winning goal. Hoffman was credited with the assist - her third helper of the season.

It was all Hoffman from there. The junior banged home a rebound off an initial shot from junior Rachael Strockbine (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) just over two minutes later to give the Huskies a 2-0 advantage. Then, on another penalty corner after the first half horn sounded, Hoffman struck again to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead at the break.

Bloomsburg outshot Seton Hill, 17-2, in the first half and held a 6-1 advantage in penalty corners during the opening 35 minutes.

Hoffman completed her first collegiate hat trick with just 1:50 left in regulation which, again, came off of a Bloomsburg penalty corner opportunity. Senior Erica Krebs (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) was credited with the assist. Hoffman entered the season with two goals and one assist in her first two seasons combined (38 games). Following Saturday's offensive outburst, the junior has four goals and three assists for 11 points in just three contests this year.

The Huskies finished with a 24-3 advantage in shots and an 18-4 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Barnard (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) collected her second consecutive shutout as she improved to 3-0 on the season. Barnard made one save in the victory. Emma Jorgensen suffered the loss for the Griffins as her record fell to 0-2. Jorgensen played the first half and allowed three goals while making nine saves. Elizabeth Armbruster played the second half for Seton Hill and allowed one goal while being credited with four stops.

The Huskies were originally scheduled to play their home opener on Monday, September 17 against Coker College but that game has been postponed due to Hurricane Florence. Bloomsburg is now scheduled to play its home opener on Wednesday, September 19, against Kutztown University in a non-conference matchup. Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Steph Pettit Stadium.
