Senior running back Hakeem Sillman (Philadelphia, Pa./Frankford) rushed for 142 yards on 17 carries and redshirt sophomore quarterback Erik Benjamin (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) accounted for three total touchdowns in his first collegiate start as Bloomsburg opened the 2018 season with a 30-16 victory over visiting Merrimack College It marked the first meeting between the two schools in the all-time series. Sillman finished with 264 all-purpose yards, adding one reception for 25 yards and three kickoff returns for 97 yards in the victory. He averaged 8.4 yards per carry and had seven runs of at least 10 yards on the afternoon. Sillman got help from redshirt junior Qmac Quiteh (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West), who finished the day with 92 yards rushing on 13 carries. All told, the Huskies rushed for 258 yards on 41 carries while the defense held Merrimack to 112 yards rushing on 33 attempts. Benjamin, who was making his first career start for the Huskies under center, finished the day 9-of-20 for 145 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions through the air while adding four carries for 16 yards and two scores on the ground. Defensively, redshirt junior Alex Annan (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) posted a career-high 11 total tackles while redshirt freshman Tyshaun Pollard (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) added eight stops in the win. Redshirt senior Jake Klinger (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) had one sack while redshirt seniors Chris Gary (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Marquis Seamon (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) combined on another.

Eight different players scored as Edinboro went on the road and defeated Lake Erie in the season opener for the second straight year. The Fighting Scots dominated the contest, finishing with 551 total yards compared to 104 for the Storm. Lake Erie threatened to score just once, at the end of the first half, but the defense forced a fumble at the two yardline. That was one of six turnovers forced by the Edinboro defense, along with seven sacks. The defense even accounted for a score, as DeAndre Dowdell scored on a fumble return following a sack. Andrew Tomko made his second career start and accounted for four touchdowns. He threw for three scores and ran for another while throwing for a career-high 301 yards. Walter Fletcher also scored twice on runs of 13 and two yards, as he finished with 102 yards on 23 carries for his 11th career 100-yard game.

FIVE THINGS TO WATCH
- The game against Edinboro is the 11th meeting between the two schools and the first since 2013 when the Huskies earned a 47-35 victory over the Fighting Scots in Edinboro. Bloomsburg trails in the series against Edinboro, 6-4, but has won four of the last five contests after the Fighting Scots started the series with five straight victories.

- Both teams are receiving votes in the latest AFCA Division II poll released on Monday afternoon. The Huskies received five points in the poll while the Fighting Scots collected four. Both teams are coming off of an opening-week victory - the Huskies earned a 30-16 win over visiting Merrimack while the Fighting Scots posted a 69-0 road victory at Lake Erie College.

- Bloomsburg returns seven of its nine All-Conference performers from last season, including redshirt senior defensive lineman Jake Klinger (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) who earned First Team All-American honors from the Don Hansen Football Gazette. Klinger led the Huskies with career-highs in total tackles (69), tackles for a loss (22.0), and quarterback sacks (11.0). Klinger had a sack in the opener against Merrimack. Joining Klinger as returning All-Conference honorees are redshirt senior offensive lineman Travis Krall (New Columbia, Pa./Milton Area) who, like Klinger, earned a spot on the First Team. Returning Second Team All-PSAC East members include redshirt senior defensive lineman Chris Gary (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood), redshirt senior cornerback Marquis Seamon (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge), redshirt junior running back Alex Gooden (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara), redshirt junior running back Qmac Quiteh (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West), and redshirt junior wide receiver Michael Allen (Oley, Pa./Fleetwood).

- Both teams were picked to finish fourth in their respective divisions according to the PSAC preseason coaches poll released in early August. The Huskies are coming off of a 7-4 record in 2017 with a 4-3 mark in the east while the Fighting Scots posted identical marks of 7-4 and 4-3 in the west. The 7-4 record for the Huskies marked the 19th consecutive winning season dating back to the 1998 campaign.

- A trio of Edinboro players earned All-American honors a year ago. Walter Fletcher was a consensus All-American, including Second Team Associated Press Division II All-America honors, after ranking second in Division II in rushing. Zuril Hendrick and James Clark were named to the Don Hansen All-America Team, with Hendrick named to the First Team after leading Division II in interceptions, and Clark a Third Team choice after ranking third in Division II in receptions per game.
