West Chester built up an 11-point advantage, 45-34, at halftime despite Mauras' 16 first-half points. The Golden Rams took a 25-11 lead midway through the opening half before the Huskies responded by going on a 13-4 run over the next five minutes to trim the advantage to 29-24. Mauras scored seven points during the spurt. West Chester got the lead back into double figures shortly thereafter and the half ended that way when Miko Jenkins converted a layup for the final points of the opening 20 minutes.
Elmore cut the lead to nine with a basket to start the second half but the Golden Rams followed with a 15-2 run to take a 60-38 lead with 14:24 left in regulation to essentially put things out of reach. The Huskies did muster a 10-2 run just past the midway point of the half to cut the lead to 16 before the hosts answered with a 7-0 run to push the advantage back to 23 with 5:36 left.
The difference in the game was the shooting. Bloomsburg shot just 25-of-67 (37.3%) from the field and made only 3-of-18 (16.7%) from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Golden Rams were 34-of-72 (47.2%) from the field and 8-of-21 (38.1%) from deep. The Huskies also turned the ball over 16 times which led to 23 West Chester points. The Golden Rams, meanwhile, committed only nine miscues which led to only seven Bloomsburg points.
Jackson Hyland led four Golden Rams in double figures with 27 points. He was 10-of-14 from the field and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe in the victory.
Bloomsburg returns to action on Wednesday, January 16, when it hosts Millersville University at the Nelson Field House. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
