WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Four Huskies scored in double figures, but the Bloomsburg women's basketball team shot just 22-of-59 (37.3%) from the field and 3-of-19 from three-point territory in a 73-57 road loss to West Chester Saturday afternoon. Bloomsburg dropped to 9-6 overall, and 5-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East with the loss, while West Chester improved to 7-10 overall, and 3-6 in the PSAC East.
The Huskies were led by a trio of 14-point performances from
Bella Ricci (Etters, Pa./Red Land),
Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick), and
Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York), while
Marissa Molnar (Erie, Pa./McDowell) added 10 points. West Chester was powered by 21 points and 10 rebounds from Madison Torresin, and 16 points and eight rebounds from Destiny Jefferson.
Alyssa Mack (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), the Huskies leading scorer entering Saturday's game, was held to just four points on 1-of-8 shooting from the floor.
Mack and Ricci would help Bloomsburg race to an early seven point lead lead just 3:02 into the contest, but eight consecutive points from West Chester would knot the game at 14-14 after the first quarter.
Tied at 16-16 early in the second frame, the Golden Rams would rip off nine straight thanks to back-to-back buckets from Katherine Fisher and three from Torresin. Buckets from Saxton and Montana would help the Huskies trim the deficit to as little as one point in the third quarter, but an 15-6 West Chester run to end the period would give the Rams a lead they would not relinquish.
West Chester was only slightly better shooting than Bloomsburg, going 45.6% from the floor and 22.2% from three-point territory. The Golden Rams also won the rebounding battle 48-33.
Bloomsburg returns home Wednesday, January 16, to host Millersville. Tip-off from the Nelson Field House is set for 5:30 p.m.
