BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University volleyball team got back into the win column on Tuesday when the Huskies swept the visiting Lock Haven University Bald Eagles in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central match up at Nelson Field House. The Huskies improved to 9-21 on the year and 4-13 in conference play while the Bald Eagles fell to 6-21 for the season and 0-17 in the PSAC.

The Huskies swept Lock Haven by set scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-23.

Bloomsburg jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead in the first set and never looked back. Sophomore
Mary Kate Mooney (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) put the exclamation point in the six-point run to push the Huskies lead to 10-4 with her second service ace of the run. The two teams went back and forth over the next nine points before Lock Haven used three-unanswered points to cut the lead down to 15-11. The Bald Eagles got to within three, 16-13 after a pair of unforced Husky errors but Bloomsburg took back control with six-straight points to push its lead to 22-13, highlighted by another pair of aces from Mooney. Alyssa Cianciulli (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) earned the first set point for the Huskies with a kill and sophomore
Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) closed out the set with an ace to give Bloomsburg a 25-15 win in the opening set.

The Huskies and Bald Eagles went back and forth for the first several points of the second set before the Huskies used a three-point sprint to take a 5-2 lead. Lock Haven trimmed the lead down to one, 5-4, but freshman
Julia Burcin (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) kicked off a 3-0 for Bloomsburg to extend the lead back to 9-5. After a three-point run for Lock Haven cut the lead back to one, 9-8, the Huskies took control of the set and rattled off five straight points to push their lead to 14-8. The two teams continued to go back and forth but Bloomsburg did not allow the Bald Eagles to climb back into the set, limiting their runs to just two points. Bloomsburg closed out the set with five-straight points, with the final point coming off a sophomore
Mia Nicholes (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) kill.

The third set proved to be much tighter than the first two as neither team took more than a two-point lead by the midway point with Bloomsburg leading 13-12. The Bald Eagles then put together eight-straight points to lead 20-13. Mooney got the Huskies back into the set with tough serving as she got one more ace and a kill to cut the Lock Haven lead to 20-17. After a 2-1 run for Lock Haven pushed the Bald Eagle lead to 22-18, sophomore
Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) kicked off a five-point run for the Huskies with a kill to get service back and posted a pair of service aces to take the lead back for Bloomsburg. Lock Haven tied the match at 23-all but a Bald Eagle attack error and kill from Nicholes ended the set, 25-23, and the match 3-0 in favor of Bloomsburg.

Buell led the Huskies with seven kills, handed out seven assists, and posted five of the team's 13 service aces while Nicholes, Mooney and sophomore
Autumn Altland (East Berlin, Pa./Delone Catholic) finished with five kills each. Nicholes and sophomore
Grace Giza (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) combined for four block assists each while Burcin had a solo block and two block assists. Sophomore
Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) handed out a team-best 16 assists while Cianciulli posted a match-best 18 digs.

The Huskies return to the court for their final homestand of 2019 as they host Kutztown on Friday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. and East Stroudsburg on Saturday, November 16 for a 5:00 p.m. match.
