Women's Volleyball Wraps Up 2019 Season With Three-Set Loss To East Stroudsburg Saturday

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's volleyball team concluded its second season of varsity competition on Saturday evening with a three-set loss to visiting East Stroudsburg University at the Nelson Field House. Bloomsburg finished the year with a 10-22 overall record and a 5-14 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division while the Warriors improved to 26-6 overall and 16-3 in the PSAC Central.

Sophomore Autumn Altland (East Berlin, Pa./Delone Catholic) led the Huskies as she tied a career-high with eight kills while hitting a team-high .316 on the evening. Sophomore Grace Giza (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) added six kills and three assisted blocks while sophomore Mary Kate Mooney (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) had four kills and 11 digs. Junior Alyssa Cianciulli (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) posted 18 digs and finished the year with a PSAC-leading 748 digs and a league-best 6.50 digs per set. She still leads the NCAA in total digs and is second in the country in digs per set.

Sophomore Sydney Buell (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) finished with a team-high 11 assists and narrowly missed a double-double as she finished with nine digs. Sophomore Bryn Stek (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) added seven assists.

The Warriors were in control from start to finish as they won by the scores of 25-11, 25-17, and 25-14. Bloomsburg had no answer for Sam Dunphy who led East Stroudsburg with 18 kills, 14 digs, and seven assisted blocks.

Bloomsburg showed tremendous growth and improvement in year two as it reached double digits in victories by finishing with 10 wins on the year - a four-win improvement from its inaugural season. The Huskies also finished second to East Stroudsburg in the PSAC Central Division with a 5-14 league mark - one win ahead of Kutztown and five victories more than Lock Haven. Bloomsburg went 2-16 against league opponents during its initial year.
