The Huskies led 6-5 early after an Anderson jumper with 17:36 left in the opening stanza before the Lakers went on an 8-0 run over the next two-and-a-half minutes to take a 13-6 lead. Mercyhurst would not trail the rest of the way. Bloomsburg kept things close in the first half as the Laker advantage never got into double-digits over the opening 20 minutes and, at the break, the Huskies trailed by just five, 37-32.
But, the Lakers came out scorching in the second half and went on a 19-5 run over the course of the first five minutes to balloon their advantage to 56-37. The visitors stayed on the gas as the Huskies could get no closer than 12 points the rest of the afternoon.
Mercyhurst came in with one of the best defenses in the conference and maintained that pressure all afternoon as it held the Huskies to nearly 28 points below their season average. Bloomsburg had not scored fewer than 72 points in a game until Friday's contest.
Bloomsburg had no answer for MiyKah McIntosh who led the Lakers with a game-high 27 points. He was 9-of-17 from the field which included 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Joel Ufele chipped in with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Huskies were 20-of-49 (34.6%) from the field and 3-of-7 (42.9%) from long range. Mercyhurst, meanwhile, was 30-of-66 (45.5%) from the floor and hit 11-of-25 (44.0%) from three-point range. Both teams pulled down 33 rebounds on the day but the Huskies turned the ball over 15 times to Mercyhurst's eight. Bloomsburg kept things close at the line as it was 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the stripe while Mercyhurst was just 6-of-12 (50.0%).
Bloomsburg will get right back to work as it hosts Gannon University at the Nelson Field House on Saturday, December 21, in the final game of the 2019 portion of the schedule. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
