BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Freshman
Travis Elmore (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) wrapped up his sensational freshman season with 16 points and nine rebounds as the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team dropped an 88-50 decision to visiting Shippensburg University on Saturday afternoon at the Nelson Field House. The Huskies closed out the 2018-19 season with a 7-19 record and a 3-17 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division. The Raiders advance to the conference tournament with a 22-6 overall mark and a 16-4 record against league opponents.
With his 16 points on Saturday, Elmore reached double figures in 23 of his 26 games during his rookie season and never scored fewer than eight points in a game all year. He posted 15.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game on the year and narrowly missed his seventh double-double of the season with his output against the Raiders. Elmore's per game averages place him tied for 21st in the conference in scoring and tied for 15th in the league in rebounding. He also finished the year third in the conference in field goal percentage at 57.0% (171-of-300).
Joining Elmore in double figures on Saturday were redshirt junior
Sam Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) and fellow freshman
William Melson (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff) who chipped in 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
Shippensburg had three players in double digits led by Jake Biss who poured in a game-high 25 points on 11-of-14 from the field. He scored 21 of his points in the first half as the visitors raced out to a 42-24 lead at intermission. Antonio Kellem finished with 18 points while John Castello chipped in 10 points for Shippensburg.
The Huskies couldn't get shots to fall on Saturday as they were just 20-of-62 (32.3%) from the field and 1-of-15 (6.7%) from beyond the arc. Saxton knocked down Bloomsburg's only triple of the day to extend the program's streak to 234 consecutive games with at least one three-pointer. Shippensburg, meanwhile, was 36-of-74 (48.6%) from the field and 12-of-29 (41.4%) from deep. The Raiders also held a 53-28 edge on the glass.
The Huskies honored their lone senior,
Darius Robinson-Wallace (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter), prior to the opening tip as the redshirt senior from Philadelphia finished out his collegiate career. He played in his 71st career game on Saturday afternoon and totaled 213 points and 153 rebounds in a Huskies' uniform. He averaged career-highs in points (3.8) and rebounds (2.8) this season. Robinson-Wallace had three points and one rebound on Saturday.
