BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University football team will begin preparations for the upcoming 2019 season when the annual series of spring practices gets underway at Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium on Friday, March 22.

The Huskies will conduct 13 practices and a scrimmage game over the next three weeks, culminating with the annual Maroon and Gold Game on Saturday, April 13. Kickoff from Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium is slated for 1:30 p.m. and admission for all fans is free.

"We have had an excellent offseason of conditioning and we are anxious to get out on the field and start playing football again," said Bloomsburg University head coach, Paul Darragh. "The spring season always gives us a good idea of what type of team we will have in the fall. We are very encouraged by our preparation thus far and we certainly anticipate an excellent spring."

Bloomsburg finished the 2018 season with a 6-5 overall record and took third place in the PSAC Eastern Division standings with a 4-2 divisional mark and, for the 20th consecutive season, the Huskies wrapped up the year with a winning record and won six or more games. The latter is a conference record and the winning-season streak is the third longest in conference history, behind 31 for West Chester and 22 for Clarion. Bloomsburg's previous school-record streak for consecutive winning seasons was 10, set from 1946 to 1955.

The winning record this past season also came against long odds as it was only the third time in school history the program managed a winning record after having a losing mark through five games. The other two were in 1946 and 2007, which ended with four- and five-game winning streaks, respectively.

Bloomsburg will return three All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) selections from a season ago - running back Alex Gooden (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara), wide receiver Michael Allen (Oley, Pa./Fleetwood), and placekicker Jaco Sattamini (Delaware Water Gap, Pa./Stroudsburg) - each of whom earned Second Team accolades. Fullback Jack Gaugler (Mount Pleasant Mills, Pa./Selinsgrove) earned Don Hansen All-Region honors last season and comes back to serve as the Huskies' anticipated lead blocker in 2019. Running back Qmac Quiteh (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West), who was a Second Team honoree in 2017, also returns for his final season.

Bloomsburg is scheduled to open the 2019 campaign on Saturday, September 7, against Stonehill College at Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The full 2019 schedule will be released in conjunction with the spring game next month.
