BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's and women's tennis teams got underway against Salem University on Tuesday afternoon but were forced to call the match due to rain and wind that hit the area.
On the women's side, the Tigers claimed the doubles point by taking two of the three matches from the Huskies. Bloomsburg's lone victory came at #2 as junior
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and sophomore
Giovanna Bonito (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Reino) teamed for a 6-0 win. Singles were underway when the postponement was announced. The Huskies were trailing in five of the six matches with only sophomore
Isabella Sarquis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Metodo) leading at #6 singles when the rains came.
The men took the doubles point from Salem as sophomore
Lucas Pedrotti (Caxias do Sul, Brazil/Sao Jose) and
Bernardo Abreu (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Rogedo) won 6-2 at #1 and sophomores
Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/Furst Johann Ludwig Schule) and
Nagid Walle (Willemstad, Curacao/Saint Andrews (Fla.)) earned a 6-4 victory at #3. The singles action was also quite competitive as Walle was leading 6-2, 3-1 at #5 and sophomore
Guille Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Escolapios) was ahead 5-4 at #3. Luetzig lost his first set but was leading in the second at #6. Pedrotti was tied 6-6 in the first set at #1 while Abreu and freshman
Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Colegio Alemán de Málaga, Spain) each dropped their first set but were tied in the second.
The Huskies are scheduled to be home on Friday, April 19, against Harford Community College before heading to Kutztown University for a pair of important conference matches on Saturday, April 20. Friday's match is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. while Saturday's action gets underway at 11:00 a.m.
