Kelleher Tallies Six Points as Women's Lacrosse Cruises to 15-5 Win Over Kutztown

HTML BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG, PA - Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) tallied a game-high five goals and an assist to power the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team to a 15-5 win over Kutztown University Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies have now won two straight and improve to 8-3 overall, and 4-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Kelleher was sensational for Bloomsburg in the win, opening the game with a pair of goals and following with three straight scores in the second half. The redshirt sophomore has recorded seven points in two games since returning from an injury that sidelined her for the previous four contests. Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) continued her recent hot streak with three goals, an assist, and a team-high nine draw controls, while Kirsten Wozniak (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) notched a goal and four assists. Senior Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) is now just one goal away from reaching the 100-goal mark for her career after tallying a pair of scores Tuesday.

The Huskies were sharp from the opening draw, as back-to-back goals from Kelleher and a free-position goal from Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) gave Bloomsburg a 3-0 lead with 18:03 to play in the first half. Goals from Lauren Schmidt and Destanee Watkins kept Kutztown within striking distance late in the half, but a goal from Jaskuta would give the Huskies a 4-2 lead after one.

The early part of the second frame was all Bloomsburg, as the Huskies opened the period with six consecutive goals to extend their lead to eight just 11:11 into the half. Wozniak, Bergman, and Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) all had goals in the run, while Kelleher deposited three straight goals in just 2:01 of action.

Emily Smith would trim the deficit to seven with a goal at the 14:00 mark of the second half, but a pair of Bergman goals and a score from Casey Hefner (Telford, Pa./Pennridge) salted away the win for the Huskies.

Watkins and Smith each had two goals to pace the Golden Bears, while Schmidt had the other Kutztown goal. Goalkeeper Megan Vaughan had 15 saves in the loss. Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) got the nod in the net for Bloomsburg and recorded seven saves in the complete-game victory.

Bloomsburg is idle until next Wednesday, April 10, when the Huskies travel to Lock Haven for a PSAC battle beginning at 4:00 p.m. Bloomsburg returns home on Saturday, April 13, to host Slippery Rock.
