BLOOMSBURG, PA -
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) tallied a career-high six points on three goals and three assists as the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team closed out the 2019 regular season with an impressive 22-8 victory over visiting Gannon University Saturday. The win snaps a three-game losing skid for the Huskies, who finish the regular season with a record of 11-6 overall, and 7-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
Bloomsburg was dominant throughout Saturday's contest, jumping out to a 7-2 lead midway through the first period thanks to a trio of goals from
Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and two scores from Bergman. Gannon answered with a pair of goals to trim the lead to three with 10:18 to play in the half, but the Huskies finished the first period on a 6-1 run to take a commanding 13-5 lead at the break.
The second half was all-Bloomsburg, as the Huskies opened the frame with nine consecutive goals over the first 19 minutes of the period to extend their lead to 22-5 with 11:20 to play. The Golden Knights tried to mount a late rally with three straight goals in the game's waning moments, but Bloomsburg would stifle any further ideas of a comeback down the stretch.
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) finished with five points on two goals and three assists for the Huskies, while Dempsey poured in a game-high four goals.
Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) chipped in three goals and an assist, and
Allison Bardman (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area),
Taylor Skawinski (Ledgewood, N.J./Morris Catholic), and
Abby Kalish (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) had two goals apiece.
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) and
Charlotte Williamson (Phoenixville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) split time in goal for Bloomsburg and combined for six saves in the win.
Prior to Saturday's game, seniors Jaskuta,
Jordynn Kurcoba (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira),
Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape), and student assistant Hannah Getz were all honored for their tremendous careers at Bloomsburg.
The Huskies will miss out on next week's PSAC Tournament, but await their fate in the Division II Tournament, which will be announced next Sunday, May 5, at 8:30 p.m. on NCAA.com. Bloomsburg was ranked third in the latest Atlantic Region rankings announced this week.
