Baseball Stays Red Hot with 12-4 Win at Le Moyne Tuesday

HTML BOX SCORE

SYRACUSE, NY - Kyle OFier (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area) went 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBI as the Bloomsburg University baseball team rolled to a 12-4 victory at Le Moyne College Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies have now won five straight games and improve to 31-10 with just four games remaining in the regular season.

Locked in a scoreless tie after three innings, it was OFier who would break the seal and nudge the Huskies ahead with a two-run blast to right that scored Jared Burcin (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty). The lead would not last long, however, as Nick Place belted a two-run shot in the bottom half of the inning to knot it at 2-2 through four.

The game remained tied until the top of the sixth, when Bloomsburg exploded for an eight-run inning to take a commanding 10-2 lead. Andrew Holmes (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) and Nate Krizan (Montoursville, Pa./Home School) both worked walks with the bases loaded to give the Huskies a 4-2 lead, and Ryan Shiffer (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) continued his recent hot streak with a double that brought in Holmes, Krizan, and Chad Cooperman (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury). Shiffer has now had a hit in 17 consecutive games. Ben Newbert (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Harriton) followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to six, and Burcin and Carter Chasanov (Magnolia, Del./Polytech) capped the big inning with RBI knocks to make it 10-2.

The Dolphins chipped away at the lead with runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but a two-run bomb from Cole Swiger (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) in the top of the ninth would salt away the victory for the Huskies. Burcin was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored for Bloomsburg, while Chasanov was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Jared Marshman (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) got the nod on the bump for Bloomsburg and allowed just three earned runs on four hits over 6.0 innings of work. Marshman walked just two batters and struck out seven in the win.

The Huskies will wrap up the regular season on Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, against West Chester University. The teams will open the four-game series in West Chester on Friday before concluding on Saturday at Danny Litwhiler Field. The home doubleheader will also serve as Senior Day for the Huskies. Bloomsburg has already clinched a spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament, which is set to begin on Wednesday, May 8, in Johnston, Pennsylvania. Entering the final weekend of the regular season, the Huskies sit two games behind first-place Millersville and three games ahead of East Stroudsburg and West Chester which are tied for third.
