BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - For those traveling to Bloomsburg University's upper campus for any athletic events, please note the new travel restrictions due to the installation of a new pedestrian footbridge over Lightstreet Road. The PA-487 closure limits the use of Lightstreet Road in the small section where the work is being performed. To accomplish this installation work, a detour will be in place from April 29 at 7 a.m. through May 17. Work will performed seven (7) days a week until completed.
The official PennDOT detour around the footbridge installation - for those traveling from the south - will have traffic turning right at the light by the Town Hall, remaining on Route 11, heading along the river several miles, and then turning left onto Central Road meeting PA-487, adjacent to I-80. When exiting off I-80, fans and spectators can still access upper campus at the new intersection (Country Club Road) or by turning right on Arbutus Park Road.
This project will make it safer for BU students to access campus from Honeysuckle Student Apartments and the other housing complexes on the other side of Lightstreet Road. Because the roadway, PA-487, is an emergency detour route for any I-80 highway closure, the closure schedule is required to work around winter weather conditions and major holidays to minimize interstate detour impact.
