BLOOMSBURG, PA - The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team was eliminated from contention for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship with a 4-0 loss to Mercyhurst University in the semifinals Friday afternoon.

Cormac McCooey and Unai Gonzalez got the Lakers off to a hot start in the doubles portion of the match, notching a 6-0 victory over Guille Carranza (Sevilla, Spain/Escolapios) and Oliver Wiesemann (Jena, Germany/Colegio Alemán de Málaga, Spain) at #1. Mercyhurst would later lock up the doubles point when Sebastian Pardo and Felix Schmedding downed Quin Bucheit (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) and Benjamin Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) 6-2 in the #3 position. Robin Luetzig (Hadamar, Germany/Furst Johann Ludwig Schule) and Nagid Walle (Willemstad, Curacao/Saint Andrews (Fla.)) held a 4-3 lead for the Huskies at #2 doubles when the match was called.

Pardo and Schmedding were terrific for the Lakers in singles competition as well, tallying victories in the #4 and #6 positions, respectively. Mercyhurst would secure the shutout victory at the #3 slot, when Gonzalez defeated Wiesemann 6-0, 6-2. McCooey, Ruairidh Fraser, and Arseniy Sklyarov all held leads for the Lakers when the match was completed. 

With the win, the Lakers will move on to face the Edinboro Fighting Scots, who defeated Millersville in Friday's other semifinals matchup, in the PSAC Championship on Saturday afternoon. First serve from the Burt Reese Tennis Center will take place at 1:00 p.m.
