SHIPPENSBURG, Pa . – Senior Bella Ricci (Etters, Pa./Red Land) paced the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team with 13 points but it was a tale of two halves as the Shippensburg Raiders out-scored the Huskies 38-24 in the final 20 minutes to win, 66-53, Wednesday evening. The Huskies dropped to 7-8 on the year and 4-6 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference while the win lifts Shippensburg to 9-6 on the year and 6-3 in conference play.
Ricci scored eight of her 13 points in the second half, including going 2-for-5 from beyond the arc. For the game, Ricci was 5-for-15 from the floor, 3-for-10 from downtown, and did not attempt a free throw. Ricci added an assist and a steal. Redshirt junior Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer) posted 10 points for the Huskies and led the team with seven rebounds. Junior Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) dished out a team-best five assists and while junior Lauren Oeth (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) had a team-best two steals.

As a team, the Huskies shot 35.4% (23-for-65) for the day and were 7-for-26 from beyond the arc. Bloomsburg took just four free throws for the contest and was 0-4, all coming in the fourth quarter.

Shippensburg was led by Aunbrielle Green with 18 points while Kryshell Gordy led all players with 16 rebounds. The Raiders were 12-for-21 from the free-throw line and out-rebounded the Huskies 42-38.

The Huskies carried a slim 29-28 lead into the third quarter but Shippensburg came out of the break quickly as Lauren Mills drained a three just 11 seconds into action and Destiny Jefferson made a jumper to give the Raiders a 33-29 lead with 9:06 to play in the third. Bloomsburg cut the lead down to two, 33-31, thanks to a layup from Corridoni at the end of the Huskies next possession but the Raiders used a 14-6 run over the next six and a half minutes of game time to build a 10-point lead, 47-37. With 32 seconds to play in the third, Gordy made another layup to give Shippensburg its largest lead of the game till that point, 50-37, but Ricci drained a three with 19 seconds left to cut the deficit to 10, 50-40, with 10 minutes to play.

The Raiders maintained their double-digit lead and build a 15-point advantage with 3:36 to play in regulation. Oeth made a layup with 2:46 to play and freshman Alleney Klunk (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) hit her first career basket with 2:25 left to cut the lead to 11, 64-53. With a minute left, Green made a pair of free throws which turned out to be the final points of the game as a missed three by the Huskies with 23 seconds left sealed the 66-53 win for Shippensburg.

The Huskies out-score the Raiders 17-16 in the first quarter after a back-and-forth affair as the lead changed hands four times and the score was tied six times over the first 10 minutes. Bloomsburg pushed its lead to six, 25-19, with 4:32 to play in the second quarter. With 2:50 to play before half time, Green made a layup to cut the lead to four but junior Megan Brandt (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) answered 16 seconds later to extend the lead back to six, 27-21. The Raiders ended the quarter with a 7-2 run to cut the lead to one, 29-28 at the break.

The four free throw attempts were the fewest in a game this year for Bloomsburg.

The Huskies return to the court Friday night as they host Lock Haven in a PSAC contest at 7:30 p.m. inside Nelson Field House. The contest was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon but was moved to avoid the impending snowstorm this weekend. Lock Haven enters the game 8-7 on the year and 5-5 in conference play after falling to West Chester 76-69 Wednesday night.
