Women's Basketball Opens February With 75-63 Victory At Millersville Saturday

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team had four players in double figures as the Huskies continued their push for a postseason berth with a 75-63 victory at Millersville University on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Bloomsburg snapped a modest two-game skid and improved to 9-10 overall and 6-9 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division standings. Meanwhile, the Marauders dropped to 7-13 overall and 4-11 in the PSAC East.

Junior Emma Saxton (York, Pa./Central York) led the Huskies with 18 points as she was 8-of-14 from the field and 2-of-4 from the foul line. She added six rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals in the victory. It was Saxton's fourth consecutive game of at least 10 points. Senior Taylor Montana (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) added 17 points, which included a 7-of-8 performance from the foul line, and a team-high eight rebounds. Senior Bella Ricci (Etters, Pa./Red Land) and redshirt junior Meghan Corridoni (Exeter, Pa./Holy Redeemer) were also in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Millersville's Mia Leonard started the scoring but Saxton answered with back-to-back layups to give the Huskies a 4-2 advantage with eight minutes left in the opening quarter. Bloomsburg would never trail the rest of the way.

The Huskies built up a 17-12 advantage after the opening quarter and then scored 14 of the first 16 points of the second quarter to push the margin to 31-14 - after a triple from Ricci - with 5:46 left in the opening half. However, the Marauders responded with a 14-2 run of their own to cut the Bloomsburg lead to 33-28 with 49 seconds left in the second quarter. Freshman Megan Fisher (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) hit a foul shot to give the Huskies a six-point edge at the break, 34-28.

Bloomsburg scored a game-high 24 points in the third quarter as it outscored Millersville, 24-19, to build the advantage to 11 points - 58-47 - heading to the fourth quarter. The Huskies kept the Marauders at arm's length in the fourth quarter as Millersville could get no closer than eight points over the final ten minutes.

Lauren Lister cut the Huskies' lead to eight midway through the fourth before Montana scored four straight to push the advantage back to 12 points - 69-57 - with 3:32 left in regulation. Bloomsburg maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way and settled for the 12-point victory.

Lister led the Marauders with a game-high 28 points.

Bloomsburg shot 30-of-59 (50.8%) from the field and hit 2-of-8 (25.0%) from beyond the arc. Ricci had both of the Huskies' three-pointers on the afternoon. The team was 13-of-19 (68.4%) from the free-throw line which was aided by Montana's 7-of-8 effort. The Marauders, meanwhile, were 24-of-58 (41.4%) from the floor, 3-of-14 (21.4%) from deep, and 12-of-20 (60.0%) from the stripe. Both teams had 35 rebounds while Millersville committed 13 turnovers to Bloomsburg's 11.

The Huskies will look to keep pace in the PSAC Eastern Division standings when they return to the Nelson Field House on Wednesday, February 5, to host East Stroudsburg University. Action gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
