SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Bloomsburg University softball team dropped a doubleheader to eighth-ranked Saint Leo University, Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies fell in the first game 4-0 before dropping a 3-0 decision in the night cap. With the losses, Bloomsburg drops to 8-6 on the year while the Lions improved to 23-7 for the season.

The Lions jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of the first game with a pair of sacrifice flies from Sarah Pauscher and Alexis Miniet. The Huskies got a two-out single from freshman
Tyler White (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) in the top of the second but couldn't bring her home.
Saint Leo tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the second to push its lead to 3-0. Bloomsburg had its best scoring opportunity in the top of the fourth as junior
Julia Knight (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) singled to put runners on the corners as redshirt junior
Nicolette Ray (Abington, Pa./Abington) moved to third. Ray would be stranded in scoring position as White grounded out to end the inning.

The Lions plated their final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to another sacrifice fly, which extended the Lions' lead to 4-0. The Lions threatened to score more in the inning but Knight threw out Pauscher attempting to come home after an infield single to end the inning.

Both Bloomsburg and Saint Leo went quietly in the sixth and the Huskies got a runner in the top of the seventh as junior singled down the left field line but she was left at first after a pop up and fly out ended the game.

Junior
Abby Wild (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) pitched a complete game, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and one walk while striking out five. Sophomore
Sammi Starr (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) and sophomore
Danielle Barnes (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) each collected a pair of hits for Bloomsburg.

The second game played out much like the first, though it took till the fourth inning for either team to score. Saint Leo got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth on two hits.

Bloomsburg got its first runner to second in the top of the fifth as Dobson advanced to second on a single by Barnes, but the two runners were stranded.

The Lions scored their final run on the game with a home run to left to extend their lead to 3-0. The Huskies went 1-2-3 in the seventh to end the game.

Junior
Tara Baney (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte) went all 6.0 innings and allowed three runs on five hits while only walking one. Baney struck out three Lions.

Senior
Kelsey Impink (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), Barnes, and sophomore
Rebecca Rossi (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) all had a hit for the Huskies in game two.

The Huskies have Thursday off before taking on Wayne State University and Dominican College in Winter Haven, Florida on Friday. The Huskies and Wayne State are scheduled to get under way at 2:30 p.m. followed by a 4:45 p.m. contest against Dominican.
