BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Bloomsburg University student-athletes faced considerable challenges in the spring semester of 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Not only were the spring seasons canceled - along with several winter championships - but they were sent home midway through the semester. However, the Huskies battled through adversity to enjoy great success in the "virtual" classroom.

Bloomsburg student-athletes combined to post an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.57 during the spring semester with all 19 programs earning a team GPA of at least 3.0. In fact, all 19 teams had team GPAs of 3.19 or higher for the term. A total of 275 student-athletes posted a 3.50 GPA or better during the spring, which included 52 earning a perfect 4.0 GPA.

All told, Huskies' student-athletes have a combined cumulative GPA of 3.24, with 17 of the 19 programs maintaining at least a 3.0 overall GPA during their collegiate careers.

In the spring, the women's basketball and men's tennis teams tied for the highest team GPA at 3.76 while women's soccer (3.71) and women's cross country (3.70) were right behind. Seven other teams - field hockey, lacrosse, softball, men's soccer, women's swimming, women's tennis, and volleyball - each had team GPAs of 3.60 or better.

During the academic calendar, Bloomsburg had three student-athletes named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Top 10 teams - Carter Luckenbaugh (men's soccer), Becca Cubbler (women's swimming), and Chad Cooperman (baseball). Five earned Academic All-District® honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) - Cubbler, Cooperman, Cole Swiger (baseball), Collin Hummel (men's swimming), and Colton Schnars (men's swimming). Swiger earned CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors last week with the trio of swimmers still eligible for the award. The announcement will be made later this week.

Several other student-athletes - Luckenbaugh, Lauren Hoelke (women's soccer), Trevor Allard (wrestling), Alex Carida (wrestling), Bri Doebler (field hockey), Cheyenne Ott (field hockey), Tesa Hoffman (field hockey), and Carlee Williams (field hockey) - earned scholar All-American honors from their respective sports' organizations. Additionally, five programs won team athletic awards during the calendar year - women's cross country, men's cross country, field hockey, lacrosse, and women's soccer - with wrestling finishing the year ranked 23rd in all of Division I in team GPA.
