Football Falls to Kutztown 34-7 on Parents and Family Weekend

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University football team fell to visiting Kutztown University, 34-7, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Huskies drop to 1-5 on the year and 0-3 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action while the Golden Bears improve to 5-1 for the year and 3-0 in conference play.

On Bloomsburg's third drive of the game, the Huskies when 55 yards on nine plays for the first score of the game with 4:10  to play in the first quarter. The Huskies forced a 3-and-out on the previous Golden Bear drive and took over at their own 45 yard line after a 42 yard punt that senior Tyshaun Pollard (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) returned for six yards. Freshman David LePoidevin (Middlesex, N.J./Bound Brook) completed a pass on 2nd-and-10 to senior Nas Jones (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) for 13 yards and a Husky first down to kickstart the drive. After freshman Kaleb Monaco (Pocono Pines, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) ran it for 17 yards on three carries to get the Huskies to the Kutztown 25-yard line, LePoidevin hit Monaco for a 12-yard pass and another Huskies first down at the Kuztown 13. After a pair of runs failed to move the ball, head coach Frank Sheptock called a time out to reset the Huskies offense. LePoidevin came out of the timeout slinging and connected with freshman Malik Langley (Chester, Pa./STEM Academy) for 13 yard and a Bloomsburg touch down with 4:10 to play in the quarter. Freshman Mike Baloga connected on the point-after attempt and the Huskies led 7-0.

The advantage was short lived as the Golden Bears went right down the field on their next possession for 73 yards on five plays, including a 41-yard completion between Eric Nickel and Mason McElroy to get the Golden Bears into the red zone.

The Golden Bears tacked on one more touchdown in the first after a costly Bloomsburg interception. Kutztown pushed its lead to 21-7 going into halftime with another touchdown in the second.

Kutztown extended its lead to 27-7 after a late third-quarter touchdown but a failed point-after attempt kept it a 20-point game. Kutztown closed out the scoring with another TD in the fourth after a 10-play, 49-yard trek downfield led to a KU touchdown.

Freshman quarterback David LePoidevin (Middlesex, N.J./Bound Brook) had a productive day under center for the Huskies as he threw for 148 yards on 17 completions and one touchdown. On the ground, the Huskies were led by Kaleb Monaco (Pocono Pines, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) with 83 yards on 19 carries. Pollard caught three passes for 50 yards while Nas Jones (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) made four catches for 43 yards. Langley had three catches and 30 yards with one touchdown for the day.

Defensively, the Huskies were led by Quentin Gaskill (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) with seven total tackles, including 0.5 TFL for one yard.
